Reading Terminal Market in Philidelphia

When I was in Philly, one of the highlights of the trip was making a visit to the Reading Terminal Market! I love farmer’s markets, and it received more brownie points for being indoors! It reminded me of the La Boqueria in Barcelona (oh, how I miss it) with its lovely chocolate stands and fresh produce. Although it is a bit of a tourist trap, it’s definitely worth a visit if you’re in town.

I made some new friends from New York and they introduced me to DiNic’s pulled pork sandwich. Meat was extremely succulent, but wish it had more flavor either from the sauce or the marinade. In my opinion, though, better than a Philly Cheesesteak… Definitely worth making a stop!

Laulau: Traditional Hawaiian Taro Tamale

Laulau is a traditional Hawaiian dish - it consists of pork and butterfish wrapped in taro leaves, then wrapped in ti leaves and steamed. It reminded me of an Asian tamale, but without the rice. Instead, you eat it with rice on the side. I didn’t know what butterfish was (apparently it’s some type of cod?) and had a bite of the pork fat mistakenly, haha. I’m on the fence on laulau, but definitely very interesting and worth a try.
