Sunday All-You-Can-Eat Buffet (rib tips, pulled pork, chicken, chicken nuggets, sides, and dessert) @ Outlaw BBQ Shack in Monroe, NC

BEST PULLED PORK IN AMERICA (at least in my opinion)

It was a complete accident, but I ventured to Oulaw BBQ Shack on a Sunday when they only serve the buffet. For $12.00, I got a taste of everything! But unfortunately, their famous ribs were not on the buffet menu.

I had the chance of speaking to the owners, Steven and Lynn Colombo, and their restaurant has come a long way. Before focusing on the restaurant full-time, Steven and Lynn had their own law firm. On the weekends, they would compete in the barbecue circuit, and gradually, their meats and sauces were becoming recognized. Eventually, they became the official barbecue vendor of the Super Bowl, and more and more people raved about their barbecue. Now, you can get a taste of their delicious cooking at their restaurant, and I was extremely impressed! They are so friendly and hospitable, always asking if you need anything else. Steven even took the time to sit down at my table to answer all my questions.

And he threw in some ribs because I was asking.

A few weeks ago, I finally had Five Guys Burgers.

Being from the West Coast, In-N-Out is THE burger/fast food chain, but now that I’m in the South, Five Guys is the place to be. So what’s the verdict?

Fries: FIVE GUYS (hands down) - the Idaho potatoes, the thicker fries, and crispy skin were tastier and crunchy in the right places.

Burgers: The Five Guys cheeseburger consists of a slice of cheese between two meat patties and you can literally cater your toppings to create a grilled cheese sandwich if you really wanted. The main difference from In-N-Out is that the burger does not contain the “Special Sauce.” Both are very fresh and cooked to order. The juicy meat does compensate for the lack of Special Sauce, so currently undecided.

Value: In-N-Out - for $2, I can get a deliciously fresh burger.

What do you think, In-N-Out or Five Guys?
