Soul de Cuba in Honolulu

Dinner for Two @ Soul de Cuba in Honolulu, Hawai’i

The dinner for two includes appetizers, salad, two entree selections, and dessert. Pictured here are the appetizers (papa rellena, croquetas de jaiba, and plantains) and the entrees (lechon asado and ropa viejo: shredded pork and braised beef in red sauce). The portions are HUGE and we had leftovers for 2 more meals. Desserts aren’t the best, but everything else was great. If you’re looking for a date night location, this would be perfect.

Laulau: Traditional Hawaiian Taro Tamale

Laulau is a traditional Hawaiian dish - it consists of pork and butterfish wrapped in taro leaves, then wrapped in ti leaves and steamed. It reminded me of an Asian tamale, but without the rice. Instead, you eat it with rice on the side. I didn’t know what butterfish was (apparently it’s some type of cod?) and had a bite of the pork fat mistakenly, haha. I’m on the fence on laulau, but definitely very interesting and worth a try.
